Brother Printer Reviews– Multifunction printers can be the heart of a small workgroup and with the growing number of color laser motors available, they are becoming increasingly flexible. One of the latest innovations is duplex scanning as well as printing, which can save paper and produce double-sided documents. The Brother DCP-9045CDN is for the top end of its multifunction range and includes virtually all bells and whistles except fax.

This is a large machine, weighing almost 40kg and occupying a substantial space on the table. Colored in gray and cream, it has a large and impressive automatic document feeder (ADF) with a novel, extra slot in its cover, from which the scanned pages appear during duplex scanning. The ADF can carry up to 50 pages at a time and there is a scanner mechanism based on CCD under the platform.

The control panel is well defined, although a bit heavy right hand. A 16-character, five-line, backlit LCD display shows a lot of status information but uses a surprisingly ugly and rude front. To the right of this is a set of navigation buttons and, to the right, a numeric keypad and the three mandatory buttons to start and stop jobs.

To the left of the screen are only three buttons dedicated to the print, including a lit, marked “Direct.” This is related to the lower USB and PictBridge socket on the front panel and highlighted with a silver fascia that allows for progressive printing from a USB drive or a PictBridge camera.

The numeric block is for security purposes so that the current printing can be controlled by PIN. The two schools of thought about independent printing and scanning focus on safety convenience, so it’s good to see at least the basic security implemented here.

At the bottom of the front panel is a 250-sheet paper tray, with more than 100 sheets of multi-purpose paper, to a folding tray above it. On the back are USB and Ethernet sockets.
